This color page from the *Chicago Sunday Tribune* of December 2, 1906, follows Wee Willie Winkie on his first visit to the seaside, where a day at the beach opens onto ships and a child's imagination. It is one of the early strips by Lyonel Feininger, an American-born artist who drew for the Tribune's Sunday color supplement before he became known as a painter and, later, as a teacher at the Bauhaus in Germany. The fantasy settings and vivid color of these pages were typical of the Sunday comics of the period, which had only recently become a popular feature of American newspapers. The Library of Congress holds this print as a record of that work.
