Herbert Bayer's silkscreen asks farmers to help feed the Allies by producing eggs, a wartime appeal that sets it apart from the other food-themed posters on this board. Bayer, a Bauhaus-trained designer who had moved from Europe to the United States in 1938, made it for the WPA War Services program in New York, which the catalog dates between 1940 and 1943. Britain and other Allies depended on American food shipments in those years, and the poster links the farm's daily work to that effort. Its color and simplified forms show the modernist style Bayer brought to public design.
