Unlike the barn and field views elsewhere on this board, this piece is a theatrical poster, so its farm appears as stage scenery meant to draw paying audiences. Jas. H. Wallick's name in the imprint points to a commercial lithographic printer, the kind who produced bold, colorful bills for touring productions in the late nineteenth century. Rural comedies and melodramas with farm settings were popular with audiences of that era, and posters like this one carried the play's title, cast, and promise of wholesome country scenes into towns along the route. Looking closely, you can see how the printer used large type and simplified color blocks to make the image readable from across a street.
