The title "Liberty Parade" comes from the caption cards and negative sleeves of the Bain News Service, the New York press photo agency run by George Grantham Bain in the early twentieth century. The record gives no date or location, so the exact occasion is unknown. Bain's agency photographed parades, public ceremonies, and news events for newspapers, and "Liberty" in a parade title often pointed to patriotic displays, many of them during the World War I years. The picture survives as a small glass negative, a format that was common for quick news work before roll film became standard.
