The title points to a Liberty Loan parade, one of the public marches held during the United States' First World War bond drives of 1917 to 1919. The Treasury used these campaigns to finance the war by selling bonds to ordinary citizens, and parades drew crowds into the streets to hear appeals for their support. The negative comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency that sold pictures of current events to newspapers. The record gives no firm date or location, but the parade itself is a useful window onto how wartime patriotism was organized and displayed at home.
