This 1916 color lithograph promotes the Oberbayerische Flugspende, or Upper Bavarian Flight Donation, a campaign that asked civilians to give money toward military aircraft. Wartime German donation drives like this one collected private funds to supply the army's air service during the First World War. The poster is credited to the artist Erler, most likely the Munich illustrator Fritz Erler. Its title, "Aufwärts," meaning "upward," suggests the hopeful tone these appeals tried to strike.
