Few details survive for this view of a plane shop in College Point, a waterfront neighborhood on the north shore of Queens in New York City. The Bain News Service, a commercial picture agency that sold news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, made the glass negative, and its caption data gives the place name but no firm date. Aviation was new and drew public attention in those years, and small repair and building shops like this one were where early airplanes were assembled, fixed and tested. The title comes from unverified agency data, so the exact business and year remain open.
