A sweetheart pair drifts in a rowboat across the middle of this card, with the verse printed beneath them as part of the design. Valentine postcards like this one were a booming trade in the early 1900s, when cheap color lithography and the penny post made it easy to send a sentimental greeting for a few cents. Cards of this kind leaned on stock scenes of courtship, such as boating, flirting and sweet rhyming verse, so the image and words were meant to be read together. The "Puppy Love" heading on the board points to the stock of comic and cute cards that traveled alongside the more serious romantic ones.
