Peter G. Gerry, a Democrat who represented Rhode Island in the United States Senate from 1917 to 1929, is the subject of this glass negative. The record gives no date, and the title comes from caption data that Bain News Service wrote on the negatives or cards, so the occasion behind the picture is unclear. Bain's business supplied news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, and portraits of officeholders and other public figures were among its common subjects. The name on the card is the best guide to who appears here, though it has not been independently verified.
