The only identifying detail for this glass negative is the name Jos. Kornfeld, which the Library of Congress lists as unverified and taken from the Bain News Service's negative or caption card. Bain's New York agency, established around the turn of the twentieth century, supplied news and portrait pictures to newspapers, and its files hold tens of thousands of glass plates made when glass was still the standard medium for press work. The record gives no date or subject, so the sitter and the occasion remain open, and researchers often check such names against city directories and newspaper indexes.
