Havana's harbor, with its narrow channel guarded by the Morro Castle fortress, was one of the busiest ports in the Caribbean, and this glass negative shows the working waterfront that drew photographers to the city. It comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, the New York press photo archive that supplied news pictures to newspapers and magazines in the early twentieth century. The record gives no date, and the title comes from caption information that has not been independently verified, so the exact year and vantage point remain uncertain. Even so, the glass plate preserves a view of a port city whose shipping and trade tied it closely to the United States.
