The clubhouse at Cromer, a seaside resort on the Norfolk coast, is the focus here, set among the golf links above the North Sea. Like many Victorian and Edwardian resorts, Cromer drew visitors who came for sea air and sport, and golf had become a fashionable pastime in England by the 1890s. The image was made with the photochrom process, which used multiple lithographic stones to add color to a photograph, and the Detroit Publishing Company later sold it in its 1905 catalog of English views. The brightly colored print offers a glimpse of how these leisure grounds looked at the turn of the century.
