The crew of the Harvard second varsity eight, photographed in 1915, is identified by name in the caption: Whitemarsch, Brown, Potter, Talcott, H. Middendorf, Richardson, Capt. Meter, and Busk. The caption information comes from the Bain News Service and is unverified, so the names are best treated as a starting point for research. Bain's agency sold news pictures to newspapers and magazines in the early twentieth century, and college rowing was a popular subject, with Harvard's crews drawing wide attention on the Charles River and at regattas. Photographs like this one show the eight-oared shell and the team's uniforms and equipment of the period.
