Titled simply "Garland," this print survives only as a glass negative, and the record gives no date or description of what the garland decorates or who wore or hung it. The title and its caption cards came from the Bain News Service, the New York photo agency that George Grantham Bain founded around 1900 and that supplied newspapers with pictures of current events, people and everyday scenes until the 1920s. Bain's staff often recorded subjects quickly on small glass plates, so the negative is typical of the agency's working output. Because the source data is unverified, viewers should treat the title as a starting point and look closely at the image itself for clues about its setting.
