A panoramic view taken from the La Plaza theater gives a rare high-angle look at St. Petersburg, Florida, as it stood in 1913, not long after the city had grown from a small Gulf Coast settlement into a booming winter resort and rail-connected town. Panoramic photographs of this kind were popular in the early twentieth century, often sold as postcards or keepsakes, and they captured streets, rooftops and waterfront in a single wide frame. Looking across the scene, viewers can trace how the downtown was laid out in the years when the Florida land boom was reshaping the Pinellas peninsula.
