Marie Louise Jeanningros signed this lithograph at age 13, and her name sets it apart from the usual wartime posters. Its French title, "Économisons le pétrole," translates as "Let's save gas," and the 1918 date places it in the final year of the war, when fuel was scarce and carefully managed. The record lists the U.S. Fuel Administration, created in 1917 to oversee domestic fuel supplies, as its sponsor, and the poster's message of conservation matches that agency's push to cut consumption at home.
