Its catalog record identifies this as a Japanese ukiyo-e print dated to about 1750, but it does not name the figures, place, or artist shown. Ukiyo-e, meaning "pictures of the floating world," were made by carving a design into woodblocks, inking them, and pressing paper against them, a method that let one image be printed many times. Around 1750 these prints were mostly black-and-white or lightly hand-colored, before multicolor printing became common in the mid-1760s. The record's label "antique photo print" is inaccurate, since this is a woodblock print rather than a photograph, so the date and attribution are worth checking against the original source.
