The theater itself is unidentified, but the view was made by the Decorators' Supply Co. of Chicago, a firm that sold materials for decorating public interiors, so the picture may have been meant to show what a finished room could look like. Around 1909, the nickelodeon boom was filling storefronts and converted halls with rows of chairs, screens, and painted walls, and photographs like this one record how inexpensively early film houses were often dressed. Its copyright line makes it a useful trade record of movie-house design in the period, even though the specific room cannot be placed.
