The panorama shows Round Knob as a hotel-and-railroad scene, a bird's-eye view that makes a single peak the center of a larger promotional landscape. Its title credits the W.N.C.R.R., the Western North Carolina Railroad, whose line carried travelers and freight through the Blue Ridge in the 1880s and drew resort development to the mountains. Horace Bradley sketched the view, and the print was engraved and printed by C.G. Crawford of New York, with the copyright held by T.H. Bomar. Such prints were meant to sell a destination, so the tidy rail lines, hotel and open terrain show what promoters hoped visitors would find.
