Few picture postcards of the 1910s were as openly political as this color card, which carries the plain slogan "Votes for women" and is numbered 6342 in its series. Suffrage campaigners and their supporters used postcards like this to spread their message cheaply and widely, since the cards could be mailed from town to town. The card dates to about 1913, the year of the large suffrage parade in Washington, D.C., held the day before Woodrow Wilson's inauguration, when the movement drew unusual national attention. The card shows how ordinary printed ephemera carried the cause into everyday households.
