Heifetz is the subject here, the Lithuanian-born violinist Jascha Heifetz, who rose to fame as a prodigy in the early twentieth century and became one of the most celebrated concert performers of his era. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, supplied press pictures of performers, politicians and public figures to newspapers, and this glass negative belongs to that body of work. The record gives no date, and the title is taken from unverified notes on the negative or its caption card, so the exact occasion is uncertain. Still, the image reflects how the press documented concert artists during the period when Heifetz was touring widely in the United States.
