Round 10 of a bout is the detail that sets this one apart: the caption places Ad Wolgast, the lightweight boxer nicknamed the Michigan Wildcat, at a moment when he was plainly "in a bad way." Wolgast held the lightweight title in 1912 and drew large crowds to his fights. The Bain News Service, a New York agency, sent photographers to ringside events like this one and sold pictures to newspapers that needed them quickly, which is why several frames from a single fight often survive. The record dates the picture to November 28, 1912, though the title and date come from caption data the archive itself marks as unverified.
