A young woman poses as she hands out copies of the *War Cry*, the Salvation Army's newspaper, and the staged setting suggests the photographer wanted to show the paper being sold on the street. Fritz W. Guerin made the print, but the caption card gives no date, so its exact year is unknown. Street selling of the *War Cry* was a common way for Salvation Army members, many of them women, to raise funds and bring their message to the public. The caption's subject tags of newspapers, the Salvation Army, and women point to that work.
