Its title, *The Lord provides*, sets a note of bitter irony against subjects the record ties to the Depression: unemployed workers, women, demonstrations, and police. Jacob Burck made this lithograph in 1934, and it was published that year in *The American Scene*, a New York series issued by Contemporary Print that gathered socially minded graphic work of the period. Many artists of the early 1930s used such ironic titles to depict hardship at a time when private charity and public aid fell far short of need. The print is now part of the Ben and Beatrice Goldstein Foundation Collection at the Library of Congress.
