Unlike most pictures on this board, this one was made to sell a show rather than to portrait a dog. It advertises the High Rollers Extravaganza Co., a touring stage company, and was printed by the Courier Litho. Co. of Buffalo, New York, around 1899. That was the heyday of illustrated theatrical posters, which traveling troupes used to draw audiences to opera houses and theaters in small towns before motion pictures took over. Posters of this kind were typically bold and crowded with color and billing, and they show how entertainment was marketed at the turn of the century.
