Devere's High Rollers Burlesque Co. is the name that sets this lithograph apart from other stage advertising of its day. It was printed in New York by H.C. Miner Litho. Co., a firm that produced a great deal of theatrical poster art in the late 1890s. Burlesque at the time meant lively variety revues built on comic sketches, parody, song and dance, and touring companies like this one carried the form to audiences across the country. The board's placement under dogs suggests a dog appears somewhere in the design, which would fit the crowd-pleasing spirit of such advertising.
