Photographed on the east facade of Wilson Commons at the University of Rochester on 30 April 1991, this image records a wall that became a place for public protest over the Persian Gulf War. The U.S.-led campaign against Iraq had ended in late February, but the debate over its moral cost continued on campuses like this one. The photograph's subject is the wall itself, which makes it a useful record of how the conflict was argued about after the fighting stopped. The Library of Congress later included the print in *Eyes of the Nation*, a survey of American visual history published in 1997.
