John McCormack, the Irish tenor, is the figure named in this glass negative, which was made by the Bain News Service and later folded into the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress. The record gives no date, and the title itself is unverified, so the sitting cannot be placed with certainty. McCormack was one of the most celebrated singers of the early twentieth century, known for concert tours and recordings on both sides of the Atlantic. Bain's studio photographed many visiting performers and public figures in this period, so the image is best read as a record of a prominent artist's visit rather than a documented Dublin event.
