The caption "ZR-1" most likely refers to the first rigid airship built for the United States Navy, which carried that designation before being named Shenandoah and entering service in 1923. Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold news photographs to newspapers, covered aviation and naval stories of the era, so the image probably shows the airship or its crew. The record does not confirm the subject or date, so treat that identification as provisional. The Shenandoah broke apart in a storm over Ohio in September 1925, and the loss fueled debate over rigid airship design.
