The record gives us little more than a title, "Bedroom," and a note that it comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress. The Bain News Service was a New York photo agency that operated from roughly 1899 into the early 1930s, selling pictures of news events, people and everyday scenes to newspapers. Its glass negatives, most of them 5 by 7 inches or smaller, were captioned by hand on cards, and many of those captions were added quickly and never checked, so the title here should be read as a label rather than a verified description. A room photograph from this period offers a useful window into domestic interiors of the early twentieth century, though the specific room shown is not identified.
