This color lithograph poster advertises the Chicago Horse Show at the Coliseum, a large exhibition hall in the city that hosted livestock shows, fairs, and other public spectacles. Its record attributes the printing to the Sherwood Litho. Co. of Chicago and dates it to 1897, though those details come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified. In the late nineteenth century, horse shows drew crowds of urban spectators who admired saddle horses, carriage teams, and show-ring competition, and posters like this one were a main way organizers reached those audiences.
