The only identifying detail here is the name "Herb. Chas. Grant," which the Library of Congress lists as unverified and taken from the negative or its caption card. The plate comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, the work of the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied newspapers with news and portrait photographs in the early 1900s. Glass negatives of this small size were everyday tools of that trade, so the plate shows how quickly press pictures were made and sent out.
