A seated man, a woman, and a baby gather at a table in this 1948 Christmas card, a holiday image built around the household rather than the season's usual symbols. Made by Castellón as an etching and aquatint, the card was printed as an intaglio plate and signed in pencil beneath the image, which suggests the artist treated it as a work in its own right and not only as a greeting. Domestic scenes like this were common in holiday cards of the late 1940s, when many families were reuniting after the Second World War. The Library of Congress holds the print in its Prints and Photographs Division.
