A holiday greeting from the NAACP, this print uses the Christmas season to make a case for integration: a children's choir of mixed race stands together to sing. In the 1950s, civil rights organizations often used images like this to show racial integration as ordinary and hopeful, at a time when schools, churches and public spaces were still largely segregated in much of the country. The picture belongs to the association's records, where it sits among other scenes of interracial relations from its public relations work.
