From a hill above the water, this wide panoramic view sweeps across an entire coastal city, with rooftops, streets, and the harbor edge running down toward the sea. Its warm sepia tone was typical of photographs printed in the early twentieth century, when long panoramic views were popular for recording towns and their growth. The board files it under Theodore Roosevelt's presidency, which ran from 1901 to 1909, a period of rapid expansion in American cities. The city itself is not named here, so the image is best read as a snapshot of that era's urban landscape.
