Its defining feature is the wide, sweeping view of a coastal town laid out along its harbor, with the water and waterfront filling much of the frame. Panoramic views like this were popular from the late 19th into the early 20th century, when photographers used long-format cameras to capture whole working waterfronts with their piers, boats, and warehouses in a single exposure. The record places it among the presidential images on this board, but it does not name the town or the date, so the picture is best read as a record of a harbor community and its shoreline in that era.
