This sheet is a single page from *Kōrin hyakuzu* (*One Hundred Designs by Kōrin*), a pattern book published in Kyoto by Hosokawa Kaiekidō, and its designs for lightweight cotton summer kimonos show the bold, decorative style of the painter and designer Ogata Kōrin (1658–1716). Pattern books like this one gave dyers, weavers, and other craftspeople ready-made motifs, so the printed page carried Kōrin's influence well beyond his own lifetime. The woodcut was made after his death, probably in the early 1800s, when his work was widely copied and admired. Its prints are a useful record of how textile design circulated in Japan during that period.
