A handshake in the Fenway Park dugout links two of the Red Sox's most famous eras: Babe Ruth, who had starred for Boston before his 1920 sale to the Yankees, and Ted Williams, the young left fielder who was then becoming the team's biggest draw. The catalog dates the scene to July 13, 1943, but Williams was serving in the Navy that season and did not play, so the date and the moment deserve a closer look. The halftone print is noted as c1949, after Ruth's death in 1948, so it likely reproduces an earlier news photograph for publication.
