Little is recorded for this negative beyond its title, "A. Fields," which the Bain News Service supplied from caption cards and which has not been independently verified. The image survives as a glass negative no larger than 5 by 7 inches, a format the Bain agency used widely for news and portrait work. George Grantham Bain founded his New York pictorial news service around 1899, and its files, now held by the Library of Congress, capture the city's events and personalities in the early twentieth century. Viewers interested in this particular frame should treat the name as a lead to be checked against the Bain caption cards and related files.
