A pack mule and its handlers are the focus of this scene of men searching for gold, a subject the record ties to the prospecting boom of the 1880s, when strikes drew many men into the mountain West. The title credits Remington, most likely the painter and illustrator Frederic Remington, who made his name portraying the frontier and its working men and animals. The print is a photomechanical reproduction, a process that let painted images be copied cheaply and widely in the years before halftone photographs became common in magazines.
