Titled "The Roosevelt fireside," this 1937 print shows a family scene rather than a public occasion, with Mrs. Roosevelt and her daughter pictured together. The title plays on the radio "fireside chats" that Franklin D. Roosevelt began in 1933, a series of informal broadcasts that made the hearth a symbol of his presidency and of reassurance during the Depression. Photographs of the first family at home were often used to show the public a more personal side of the White House. The record does not name the photographer or the exact setting, so those details remain unconfirmed.
