Howard E. Coffin was an automotive engineer and designer who helped found the Hudson Motor Car Company in Detroit and was the chief designer of its Super Six model. He also became known for public service, serving on the Naval Consulting Board during World War I and advising the government on industrial mobilization. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, produced and captioned pictures like this one, and its negatives later came to the Library of Congress. The record gives no date for this plate, and the identification comes from unverified caption data, so the exact year and occasion remain uncertain.
