Titled simply *Queen of Holland*, this 1919 glass negative comes from Bain News Service caption cards whose details were never independently verified. The sitter was most likely Queen Wilhelmina, who had reigned over the Netherlands since 1890 and remained on the throne as the country moved out of the First World War, which it had avoided by staying neutral. Bain News Service, a New York picture agency, supplied newspapers with portraits of public figures, so pictures like this were made for quick publication.
