Identified in its caption as the mayor of Hunnewell, a small town in south-central Kansas, Ella Wilson stands apart from the many news portraits in this collection. The Bain News Service, a New York agency, supplied newspapers with photographs of people in the news from around 1900 through the 1920s. Kansas allowed women to vote in municipal elections in 1887, so a woman holding a town's top office was notable for its time. The record gives no date, and the title comes from unverified caption data.
