The Nadja Caramel Company issued this 1910 card as an insert in its candy, and it shows a member of the Philadelphia Athletics, the American League club that year. The team won the pennant with a record of 102 wins and went on to win the World Series over the Chicago Cubs, which made the 1910 squad one of the strongest of the early twentieth century. Cards like this one were printed in color using relief and halftone processes, and collectors today value them as small, colorful records of the players and teams of the period. The card is part of the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection of baseball cards at the Library of Congress.
