A holiday greeting set in Pala script gives this card an unusual mix of Christmas custom and ancient calligraphy. The Pala dynasty ruled much of eastern India, including Bengal and parts of Bihar, for several centuries, and its scribes produced many Buddhist manuscripts in this script, whose letterforms are the ancestors of the modern Bengali alphabet. Printed in 1967, the card shows how a centuries-old writing system could be adapted to a modern seasonal greeting.
