The moment this stereograph captures is the toast, a familiar high point of early twentieth-century wedding receptions. The card was issued around 1907 by the Sterro-Photo Company of Dolgeville, a village in upstate New York. Its two nearly identical photographs were meant to be seen through a stereoscope, which fused them into a single three-dimensional scene. Stereo cards were a popular parlor entertainment in the 1900s, and everyday scenes of family life and celebrations were among their most common subjects.
