This poster advertises the November 7, 1903, football game between Phillips Exeter Academy and Andover, played at Exeter. The rivalry between the two New England preparatory schools was already well established by then, and games like this one drew large crowds of students, alumni and local fans. Football in the early 1900s was rougher and less regulated than the modern game, and a color poster like this one shows how schools promoted home contests before radio or any broadcast coverage existed. The poster was copyrighted by the Potomac Press of Washington, D.C., and bears the artist's monogram.
