Two girls in white dresses share the frame with a large rabbit, a pairing that sets this card apart from the many Easter greetings on the same board, which tend to show eggs, chicks, or flowers alone. Postcards of this kind were a popular way to send seasonal wishes in the early twentieth century, when printers produced them in large runs and mailing a card for a penny or two was a common habit. The rabbit, a symbol of spring and fertility that became attached to Easter in German and other European traditions, often appears with children on these cards to suggest the holiday's emphasis on new life and play. Look closely at the coloring and lettering, which can help date the card and show the printing methods of its time.
