This print is a publicity still from a 1930 film, identified by its caption as Allan Dwan's *Lawful Larceny*. It shows a man with a cigarette holder clamped in his teeth, cards in hand, in a scene built around gambling and the card table. Studios in 1930 were transitioning to sound, and still photographs like this one were produced to advertise films to newspapers and theater managers. The image came to the Library of Congress through the National Photo Company Collection, a Washington, D.C., studio whose negatives document a broad range of early twentieth-century subjects.
